APTN Investigates Nuclear Waste, January 2012

Desperate for economic development opportunities, some remote First Nations and Metis communities are thinking about hosting an underground nuclear waste repository to create jobs and make money for the community. But opponents say the environmental and human risks are just too huge and it's not worth it. APTN Investigates' Melissa Ridgen explores all sides of the debate.

National Roundtable on the Environment CEO David McLaughlin talks about the government shutting down his organization. John Baird told the House of Commons that the Roundtable produced 10 reports calling for a carbon tax, but Mr. McLaughlin says that's not true, stating the Roundtable produced 3 reports calling for carbon pricing. There's a difference. Mr. McLaughlin also said that Peter Kent asked them one year ago for specific reports, now just released, and acknowledged they were uniquely placed to offer the government good advice. A year later, the groups is axed.
